Hannaford Turner LLP was delighted to be represented at the 2026 Swansea University Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL) Colloquium by Keith Krut and Vishesh Tyagi.

Keith participated as a guest speaker on a distinguished panel chaired by Justice Andrew Baker, one of the leading judicial figures in the maritime sector. During the session, Keith explored the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape surrounding maritime decarbonisation, providing insights into some of the most significant regulatory measures affecting the shipping industry today. His presentation focused on the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime, and the increasing role of biofuels in achieving emissions reduction targets.

The discussion highlighted both the legal and commercial implications of these measures and the challenges shipowners, charterers, operators and financiers face as the industry transitions towards a lower-carbon future.

Keith and Vishesh have undertaken extensive research into maritime decarbonisation regulations and continue to strengthen the firm’s expertise in this area. Their work covers the implementation and contractual impact of key international and regional regulatory frameworks, as well as emerging developments affecting the shipping and energy sectors. This growing body of knowledge enables Hannaford Turner LLP to provide practical and commercially focused advice to clients navigating the complexities of the energy transition.

We would like to thank Swansea University and the IISTL for hosting another excellent colloquium and for bringing together industry participants, academics, practitioners and members of the judiciary to discuss developments shaping the future of maritime law and commerce.
