Whilst ship repair, refit and conversion projects have obvious synergies with shipbuilding, they are distinct legal disciplines with their own legal and commercial features. We have years of experience working for shipyards, ship repair facilities and owners in the repair, refit and conversion of ships and offshore units and installations.

Recent examples of our work include:

  • Assisted one of the world’s largest ferry companies with contracts for the conversion and mid-life upgrade of their flagship vessels.
  • Assisted an offshore product solutions engineer specialising in clean energy solutions with the conversion contract to convert an oil tanker into an FPSO and related subcontracting arrangements for major equipment.
  • Advised a major European shipbuilder on legal issues raised by the closure of a large overseas shipyard and termination and removal of existing offshore platform construction projects in that shipyard.
  • Assisted an infrastructure operator in relation to contracting for the acquisition and conversion of an LNGC into an FSU by a Singaporean shipyard.
  • Advised a leading equipment manufacturer in relation to an EPI contract in relation to a conversion project for a major LNGC owner, together with a related shipyard services agreement
