Grace is a partner of Hannaford Turner and has over 20 years’ experience of international trade and commodities work, as well as advising on a broad range of commercial disputes, having previously worked at Clyde & Co from 2002 to May 2020. Grace is regarded as being “very responsive, very pragmatic and solution-driven.”

Grace’s practice covers both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a focus on the international trade and commodities sector. On the non-contentious aspect, Grace routinely advises banks and trading companies on trade finance facilities, letters of credit, performance bonds, guarantees and sale contracts.

On the contentious side, Grace handles a broad range of international trade and commodity related disputes, shipping and general commercial disputes, in litigation and arbitration. Grace has acted on a number of high-profile High Court disputes, covering areas such as civil fraud and banking. A significant proportion of Grace’s work takes place in arbitration and she has advised, as counsel, on arbitrations under the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Court of Arbitration (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA), and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) rules, both in London and abroad. Grace also handles matters before trade association boards such as the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) and Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA).

Grace is a member of both the ICC UK Banking Committee and the ICC UK Arbitration and ADR Committee. She also accepts appointments as an arbitrator.

Grace has significant experience of trade and investment in Nigeria, as well as the broader West African region. She is admitted as a solicitor in England and is also admitted to the New York bar.

  • Advising a trading company on a revolving working capital prepayment facility relating to production assets in West Africa.
  • Acting for the trade finance department of a UK bank in drafting trade finance documentation such as trade facility agreements and discounting agreements for letters of credit.
  • Advising banks and trading companies on trade finance facilities, letters of credit, performance bonds and guarantees.
  • Advising trading companies on sale and purchase agreements, including drafting and negotiating terms.
  • Regularly advising in commodity cases concerning technical and operational disputes such as relating to quality, quantity, contamination and description.
  • Advising an international agricultural trader in connection with claims arising from a fraud perpetrated against it.
  • Advising an oil and gas trader in connection with multiple claims (both before LCIA Arbitration and English High Court) against a joint venture partner relating to oil and gas projects in Nigeria.
  • Advised a shipping company in relation to claims arising under several bunker supply contracts.
  • Advising on both seller and buyers sides in various LMAA arbitration proceedings in respect of ship sale and purchase disputes.
