Owen is a founding partner of Hannaford Turner LLP. He specialises in a wide range of commercial shipping and ship finance matters for all types of vessel. He regularly acts for clients (particularly owners and operators) in transactional matters including ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding and vessel construction contracts, ship finance and corporate matters. Owen has advised on the establishment of a number of high profile shipping joint ventures and related debt and equity arrangements.
Owen frequently acts for private equity interests in shipping and maritime investments, often co-counselling with other law firms in these transactions.
Owen has also been in-house as sole legal counsel for a two year period.

- Acted for the purchaser in many series of contracts for MR and LR tankers

- Acted for the purchaser in a contract for a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) constructed in Japan
- Acted for the purchaser in a contract for an asphalt carrier constructed in China
- Regularly acts for a global energy and commodities company in sales and purchases of vessels in their shipping fleet
- Acted for a new entrant in shipping in its acquisition of two car carriers
- Acted for a tonnage provider in the acquisition and financing of several car carriers (and related bareboat charters) and the later disposal of the fleet
- Acted for an energy company on the acquisition of LPG carriers
- Acted for a cruise line on the acquisition of two cruise vessels
- Acted for the seller/charterer in a sale and leaseback transaction involving eight newbuilding MR tankers including a sub-bareboat chartering structure for a number of the vessels
- Acted for the seller/charterer in a sale and leaseback transaction involving ten tankers
- Acted for the seller/charterer in a sale and leaseback transaction involving three vessels
- Acted for the seller/charterer in a sale and leaseback transaction involving a car carrier
- Acted for the borrower in a refinancing of its acquisition of four bulkers
