Paul is a partner of Hannaford Turner

From 1980 to 1982 he trained as a barrister in London. From 1982 to 2008 he worked at Clifford Chance in London and Hong Kong, where he became the lead partner in the transactional shipping group. From 2008 to 2019 he was a senior partner at Clyde & Co in London.

He has long experience of working with ship owners, ship operators, ship builders, debt and equity financiers, private equity funds and other industry participants on a wide range of shipping matters including: ship sales and purchases; charterparties and leasebacks; ship construction projects; ship conversion and refit projects; fleet management and operating arrangements; business acquisitions, combinations and disposals; joint ventures; UNCLOS law of the sea issues; and ship recycling arrangements. Particular areas of expertise include the passenger ship sector in which he works for leading cruise lines on their ship construction, financing and other projects, the superyacht sector in which he works for a leading custom yacht builder, a leading brokerage and management group, and several owners of superyachts, and the oil, gas, chemical and other products tanker sectors in which he works for established and start up operators. Paul’s expertise in these sectors is recognised by the shipping, ship finance and high net worth legal directories.
